Update on Debi Zuver

"Debi Zuver & Tanya Brannan at CCWF"

In June, 2005 the California Supreme Court handed down a key decision upholding the constitutionality of California’s sentencing guidelines. As a result, we expect Debi Zuver’s state appeal will soon be rejected.

As you will remember, Debi was sentenced to 21 years in prison in the shooting death of the man who had abused her for years, and who had beaten and threatened to kill her just moments before the shooting.

Though the challenge to the constitutionality of her sentence will likely fail, there is still one more appeal open to her, and we stand ready to submit her federal habeas corpus petition the day after her California appeal is rejected.
